Real Time EEG Analysis  

A new Strategy for the Investigation of Psychological Processes

An experienced physician or psychologist can subjectively assess and diagnose a patient's condition with great precision. However, sophisticated computer-aided investigations and psychological tests can greatly assist this subjective process. During the course of testing the investigator often finds it useful to monitor the patient's behaviour continually and to adapt test procedures to the subject's personality in the light of previously obtained results. This allows the consultant to fine-tune his professional opinion of the patient's condition.

Even more precise results can be achieved if the physician has access to accurate readings of the subject's general reactions such as heart and respiratory functions, eye-blink frequency and, especially, EEG readings. These data are still more useful when organised and analysed using a high-performance, properly programmed computer system (multiprocessor system) in real time.

Taken in conjunction the following three components:

·        subjective analysis based on direct communication,

·        results of sophisticated psychological tests and

·        real-time analysis and presentation of signals and reactions (especially EEG readings) yield an optimal result and produce a more reliable diagnosis.
