Rigel
Engineering can bring into the project team its expertise and know-how on areas
like decision support systems as well as on geographic information systems.
Recent relevant research experiences in such areas of expertise are summarised
in our partecipation to the IST funded projects ITEA-DS (Intelligent Tools for
Emergency Application and Decision Support) and FOREMMS (Forest
environmental monitoring and management system).
ITEA-DS
is a platform of interoperable & integrated tools for the maritime
environment, providing an
integrated emergency management system for situation
assessment (with a specific focus to emergencies & environmental impact
monitoring) and decision support (with a specific focus to predictive and
conditional maintenance) allowing ship wide access to any type of data from any
device & a general purpose workstation for human-machine interactions. Rigel
Engineering S.r.l. contributions to the project were mainly focused on the
design and development of an integrated, web-based human-machine interface
for the whole platform
allowing users to quickly get the “big picture”
of what is happening on-board, to correctly and effectively assess and manage emergency situations providing early dangerous state
detection and display to users, integration
of data provided by different subsystems, monitoring of the evolution of the situation. You can find more information about the ITEA-DS project at:

FOREMMS
is a system for monitoring forest and environment at european level, on the
basis of remote sensing. In the framework of this project, Rigel developed the
(web-enabled) data retrieval part for the resulting prototype system. Such
part of the system is OpenGIS compliant and retrieves data structured
according to an XML schema from a spatial database.
