National and International Projects

         Software tools to generate electronic commerce applications for the tourism industry, Intro Solutions, 2001-still

Consulting for the design, development and implementation of an application framework using the object oriented software engineering approach. An n-tier architecture is used and currently being implemented by using Microsoft .NET environment. The system can communicate with global distribution systems such as Amadeus.

         Vision based human-computer interaction, METU-Bilkent University, 2001-still

Co-investigator of a research and development project. The idea is to use computer vision techniques to develop techniques for man-machine interfaces. The set-up consists of a simple web camera and a pointer. We have already developed a text entry system for wearable computing based on Graffiti and modified cursive Graffiti alphabets, a wireless mouse and a paper keyboard. Currently, a text entry system and a mouse are being developed for the handicapped.

         Content based image indexing, Ministère des Affaires Etrangères (France), 1998-still

Co-investigator of a projet for academic collaboration and exchange of researchers between Image Processing and Pattern Recognition Laboratory, METU and Laboraoire des Systemes Intelligents de Perception, Paris University.

Vision based 3D virtual object modeler, Scientific and Technical Research Council of Turkey, 2000-2002

(12.000 USD)

Principal investigator of a research project in which the aim is to develop algorithms and a whole system to obtain a 3D graphical model of objects using image based modeling. Silhouette based volume intersection method along with carving based on photoconsistency is used both of which require a calibrated camera. The research still continues using auto-calibration and head modeling.

Design and implementation of a digital subtraction angiography system software, PCK Medical, 2000-2001

Consulting for the design, development and implementation of a software system for a real-time medical system. Other parts include electronic and electromechanical devices along with an X-ray capturing subsystem. An object oriented software engineering approach is followed in addition to the use of Matrox imaging library for image processing operations. Software is Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) compliant and currently being used in medical systems both in Turkey and abroad.

Standards for the transfer of accounting records in electronic media, Ministry of Finance, 2000-2001

            (total budget of the project 50.000 USD)

Consulting to develop a coding scheme (format) for the accounting records of companies. The data is text but relational. The aim is to compress the data but maintain its integrity and security so that Ministry of Finance can use them for investigation purposes. Abstract Syntax Notation One (ASN.1) is used for this purpose.

Texture model based unsupervised segmentation of remotely sensed images, State Planning Agency, 1999-2001

Principal investigator to develop unsupervised neural network based techniques for segmenting remotely sensed images into urban and non-urban areas.

         Form archiving prototype system, Information Technologies and Electronics Research Institute, 1996-1999

Principal investigator to develop a document analysis system in which the main entry are form documents. Prototype system is assessed in the biggest election region during the national elections in 1998.
