Profile

Electronics and telecommunication groups at the EIA-FR

All professors of the EIA-FR have been working in the industry before teaching and have therefore experience with equipment conception, industrial design, project management and Human Machine Interface.

The electronics group of the University of Applied sciences of Fribourg / Switzerland has been since years performing Ra&D for the Swiss industries. Of interest for the PatiMon NoE is the accumulated know-how in short range wireless communication as well as analogue and digital integrated electronics development and implementation on of large programmable devices. SoC (System on Chip) may also be realized.

This know-how is complemented by the capability of producing electronics prototypes in a short time and therefore cost-effective, at both software and hardware levels. We are as well in a position to make final measurement and verification of the realized prototypes.

Many Ra&D tasks were performed within the medical sector, particularly for hearing-aids devices and recently medical instrumentation, with focus on low power consumption, transmission with magnetic coupling at low frequencies

The telecommunication group shall be also involved in PatiMon , bringing experience with communication networks, both public and private. The field of actual interest are: high-speed communications, wired and mobile, multimedia over IP, XML applications, network performances and information systems modelling.

The telecommunication group is the leading house of the ICT-Net (http://www.ictnet.ch), the national competence network for information and communication technologies, comprising 15 Ra&D centres within Switzerland.

Recent projects are a secure terminal point dedicated to encrypted and authentified communication, Voice over IP, a Bluetooth and wireless LAN learning network and a distributed information system helping communication between athletes and sport physicians.

Specialist on Signal processing could help the project whenever needed.

The EIA-FR is therefore in a good position to start with a concept and end-up with a full performance prototype, ready for system testing and industrialisation.

Domain of competence in PatiMon

Communication, radio links, interfacing, signal processing, within following areas:

Areas                   Preferred: A1, S1, T2, T3, T4

                            Possible:  A2, A3, T1 (communication interface)

Work Load:         shall be in the order of 2 Man / year (4000 hours per year), or more, depending on the development of the NoE and possible funding within Switzerland
